The iconic Extreme Abseil event is making its thrilling return to the Ipswich Hospital’s Tower on Saturday, 3 May, and Sunday, 4 May.
Organised by the Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, this adrenaline-fuelled event aims to raise vital funds to enhance patient experience across East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust who runs the hospitals.
Among the courageous abseilers is Joe Alexander, who, despite his fear of heights, is taking on this challenge alongside close friends for the cause close to his heart.
Joe’s personal journey with cancer has ignited his passion for supporting local healthcare services. In 2000, at the age of 25, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in his chest, and later diagnosed with a second cancer, lymphoma in 2022.
“I’ve experienced first-hand the exceptional care and facilities provided by the staff in the Woolverstone Wing at Ipswich Hospital,” Joe shared.
“The unit is out of this world, you cannot be treated in a better place. I really want to help as much and as often as I can to support this invaluable service,” Joe added.
The Extreme Abseil event promises to be an exhilarating experience for participants and spectators alike, featuring breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment for those daring enough to take the plunge.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting the Extreme Abseil once again at Ipswich Hospital,” said Sandra Gosney, the charity’s community fundraising and events manager. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to challenge themselves while raising funds that make such a difference to health and healing within our community.
“We encourage anyone who would like to take on a challenge to sign up. We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Barnes Construction for sponsoring this year’s Extreme Abseil. The support of local businesses is crucial to the running of our events and we can’t thank them enough”
