Located in Avery Court, the 77m² Gallery provides much-needed performance, rehearsal and teaching space for the College in a Greek cross plan-form. Performances take place in the centre, with bay windows at the end of each arm providing audience seating, as well as shelving to store sheet music.

The Gallery is made of four different types of stone, all of which were sourced in the UK. Windows open fully, allowing music to be heard in the courtyard for outdoor gatherings. The interior is lined with acoustic shutters, which will allow reverberation within the space to be finely tuned according to the number of musicians and audience members present.
The project was incredibly high specification, designed in finite detail by a Sterling Prize-winning Architect Niall Mclaughlin . Careful sequencing and extensive quality controls were therefore required. The Gallery features high levels of interfaces between steel, concrete, stone, and blockwork and engineering tolerances were much lower than on a standard build. We undertook a rigorous quality checking regime on site, making sure that all additions are within acceptable tolerances as construction progressed.
