It incorporates patient rooms, ward areas, consulting and treatment rooms, lounge and communal spaces, support accommodation and training rooms. Associated landscaped and paved areas, car parking, and a footpath link to the adjacent Park and Ride facility were also included.

Arthur Rank Hospice was constructed using a steel framed structure with composite steel/concrete to the upper floors and flat roof areas. The external envelope is supported by a steel wall framing system and comprised of render and larch timber. The roof areas are being formed with a combination of standing seam zinc cladding to the mono pitched areas and insulated green roofs to the flat roof areas. Good quality, robust finishes were used throughout the internal spaces.

The project was initially significantly over budget. During the second stage, we engaged our supply chain to work alongside the design team, ultimately generating solutions that met the client’s expectations. Through this process, the intent was retaining the design whilst ensuring the scheme was delivered within the client’s budget.

The project was also awarded with the RICS East – Project of the Year 2017 (Community Benefit).
