The works included a full upgrade of the unit’s internal layout, the installation of new medical pendants, and the renewal of all mechanical and electrical systems, including specialist ventilation, lighting and gas services. An existing radiation “hot pipe” was enclosed, allowing the team to infill the courtyard and create valuable new office space for clinical staff.
Delivered within a live hospital building beneath seven floors of wards and theatres, the project demanded careful planning and close collaboration with the Trust to ensure clinical operations remained undisturbed. Access routes, material handling and noisy activities were tightly controlled, with constant communication between site teams and hospital staff.
Throughout the project, crane lifts were organised to install new plant within a restricted site, and all fire compliance measures were upgraded in line with current standards. The result is a significantly improved neuro critical care environment that supports modern clinical practice and will enable the team to provide efficient and excellent care for patients.
“Barnes and Bower Fuller worked collaboratively with us to deliver a quality product within the parameters of the project scope and expectations of the Trust. The site management was first class, with safety always being at the forefront of their standards. Communication between the project team and key stakeholders was always professional and pro-active. Overall, a very professional team focussed on delivery and the end outcome for our patients and staff.”
