The project comprised the demolition of the existing 2 storey commercial and residential units on-site and the construction of a new 7 storey Travelodge which is our largest Travelodge to date.

The projects’ sensitive location brought significant challenges, which we successfully managed through an excellent relationship with the local Highways authority and a commitment to community engagement, which included regular newsletters to neighbouring properties and frequent updates on both a community website and WhatsApp group.

Works comprised of a new 177-bedroom, 7 storey Travelodge with 2 restaurant units and associated public realm improvements to the surrounding roads. The methods of construction included:

• Piled foundations.
• In-situ concrete podium deck.
• Offsite manufactured Metframe construction to main hotel.
• Facing brick and curved cladding finish including green glazed feature panels.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Throughout the project we carried out several activities to deliver benefits to both the local and wider community. This included displaying artwork from a local nursery on our site hoarding, providing window cleaning to affected residents, donating old parts of the original building to a local museum, donating spare building materials to residents, employing local labour and sourcing all timber for the project from the neighbouring merchants to maximise local investment and decrease carbon emissions associated with transporting such materials.
