Barnes starts construction on its 60th hotel for Travelodge - Barnes Construction

Barnes Construction has started work on its sixtieth project for Travelodge, a new 100-bedroom hotel in Loughton, Essex.

Located close to the M11, with easy access to the M25 and Debden Underground Station only an 8-minute walk away, construction will see the existing headquarters of Higgins Group redeveloped. The new site will feature Travelodge’s new premium design, including a modern reception area, next-generation rooms, and a stylish 85 Bar Cafe. It is part of a wider mixed-use scheme that includes office and self-storage space.

The commencement of construction at the Travelodge in Loughton marks a milestone in our ongoing relationship with one of the largest budget hotel chains in the UK. When completed, it will bring the total number of projects delivered by the regional contractor to sixty (60) and the total number of bedrooms to over 4,000.

It is a relationship that has spanned over three and a half decades and began with us constructing the Orwell (Ipswich) Little Chef for Trusthouse Forte in November 1989.

Since then the ownership of the Travelodge business has changed many times, as has the projects we have undertaken. During the 90’s, schemes delivered were predominantly within the roadside catering sector where we undertook many Little Chef and Burger King Developments.  Our first Travelodge project was the refurbishment of the Luton Gateway Hotel in 1998 with its first timber frame new build being Harlow East the following year.
