Barnes is extremely proud that two of its projects have won prestigious RIBA National Awards.
The WongAvery Music Gallery for Trinity Hall, which was designed by Níall McLaughlin Architects, is a complex, logistically challenging construction accessed via a 1.5m stone passage. The basement had to be constructed using adapted plant and equipment to suit the site constraints, whilst the superstructure and ornate stonework was constructed to exacting tolerances. The Greek Cross form creates a 73m2 music hall with competing acoustic, temperature and vibration requirements.
Designed by Fielden Fowles Architects, Homerton College Dining Hall was Barnes Construction’s fifth project for the college following four years of work, and culminated in a truly unique and striking building for the college to host many significant outreach events, conferences and catering. From pigmented pink concrete to faience cladding held up by a striking sweet chestnut glulam timber frame, this project had it all and tested the years of experience of our own project team throughout our time on site.
The RIBA National Awards are given to buildings across the UK in recognition of their significant contributions to architecture. The winners for 2024, announced on 11 July 2024, were selected by the jury (members of the RIBA Awards Group), chaired by Simon Henley, from the RIBA Regional Award winners.
