Group Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality Advisor/Inspector - Barnes Construction

The Barnes Group Limited is a successful, family-owned firm based in Ipswich, Suffolk.  We specialise in construction and offer a wide range of professional services.  Since the Company was formed in 1978, we have established ourselves as a client-focused building contractor, completing various projects for blue chip and repeat business clients.  Whilst our Head Office is based in Ipswich, we operate throughout the UK. 

We are looking to recruit a Group SHEQ Advisor/Inspector to join our SHEQ Team.  This role involves frequent travel to sites and the successful candidate will assist the SHEQ Manager at Ipswich Head Office.

Reporting to: SHEQ Manager

Location: Ipswich Head Office (in person) / Site

Contract type: Full time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive

Immediate colleagues: SHEQ Inspector/Advisor

Schedule: 39 hours per week (Monday – Friday)

The purpose of this role is to provide functional SHEQ advice, guidance and coaching to Construction and Plant Teams.  The successful candidate will support the SHEQ Manager in establishing and maintaining the highest SHEQ standards for the business.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Advise, guide and coach all employees with the implementation of the Company procedures and policies.
• Advise on all current occupational SHE legislation.
• Conduct SHEQ inspections, ensuring compliance with Company procedures and policies.
• Assist the Site Team to improve SHEQ performance on site.
• Carry out investigations into accidents/incidents as instructed by the SHEQ Manager.
• Maintain/promote liaison with officials and professional bodies (e.g. HSE, ROSPA, IOSH, BSI, EA etc).
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice.
• Report to the SHEQ Manager on legal/regulatory compliance and non-compliance with safety, health, environmental and quality system and suggest/promote ways of improving performance.
• Complete the necessary SHEQ training and obtain the relevant professional qualifications.
• Facilitate the SHEQ training and ‘face fit’ training on site as and when required.

Qualifications:

• NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate (essential)
• NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice (minimum)
• Associate Member of IEMA (desirable)
• Knowledge of ISO 45001, 14001, 49001 (desirable)
