THE PROJECT COMPRISED OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW THREE STOREY HOSTEL FACILITY FOR THE HOMELESS ON A FORMER 'BROWNFIELD' SITE. THE PROJECT INCORPORATED MODERN METHODS ON CONSTRUCTION AND WAS PROCURED USING A TWO STAGE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT TENDER ARRANGEMENT
The building was constructed on a busy town centre location and reducing the number and frequency of site deliveries was paramount. With this in mind, the use of a timber frame structure to the first and second floor levels was selected which was supported on a steel framed ground floor transfer structure. This, together with the use of shower pods maximised the use of 'off site' prefabrication and minimised the vehicle movements to the site. The envelope of the building was clad with a combination of facing brickwork, coloured render and colour coated aluminium windows and doors
Key features of the project were:
- Former 'brownfield' site
- Restricted town centre site location
- Timber frame construction
- Prefabricated shower pod installation
- Biomass Boiler installation
- Design and Construct form of procurement
