SUPPORTING COLCHESTER PRIMARY SCHOOL EXPANSION PROGRAMME
17 November 2017
Essex County Council has commenced a £14million primary school expansion programme in Colchester which will create more than 900 new places across five schools in the town.
With completion expected for the new intake in September 2018, expansion work will be carried out at Stanway, St Michael’s, Stanway Fiveways and Home Farm primary schools, as well as Monkwick Junior School.
We have been appointed as the contractor for Stanway Primary School and Stanway Fiveways Primary School which together will create an additional 435 places; just under half of the total additional capacity.
At Stanway Fiveways Primary School, a two-storey teaching block containing nine new classrooms and a school hall will be built. Stanway Primary School will benefit from nine new classrooms – some of which are replacing existing relocatable classrooms.
All five projects will also involve works to enhance external areas and increased car parking.
Cllr Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Colchester continues to be one of the fastest growing areas in Essex and the demand for primary school places is expected to continue to rise in the coming years.
“We have already spent £30million creating more than 2,300 new school places in Colchester since September 2014 and are committed to ensuring that investment continues in the years to come.”
“I am very pleased that work is now set to start on the expansion of these five primary schools.
