Senior Site Manager, Mark Larter, has been presented with the ‘Best Non-residential Site Manager Award at the national LABC Building Excellence Awards held at Westminster Park Plaza Hotel in London.
Mark, who lives in Ipswich, has worked for Barnes Construction for the last five years, and was instrumental in the successful delivery of the new Dining Hall at Homerton College in Cambridge, which has picked up several industry accolades.
The LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence Awards celebrate best practice, quality and exemplary standards in construction, with a panel of industry experts judging a selection of the highest quality projects, professionals, and teams from around England and Wales. Mark fought off stiff competition to win his award, with the judges’ commenting that they were impressed by “his demonstration of true commitment and dedication to quality across all his projects. His sites are always well organised, tidy, efficient and safe.”
Mark’s career in construction started over 40 years ago as an Apprentice Carpenter. He quickly worked his way up to become a Site Manager at 29 years old.
He is proud of all the schemes he has been involved in over the years saying, “once I am given a project, I see my name on the gate and treat it as my own.”
However he has no doubt about what gives him the greatest job satisfaction saying,
“What I like best about my job, whether that be as a Project Manager, Site Manager or just being in the industry, is seeing the young people that have been under my wing that are now progressing and furthering their careers. I can name half a dozen young people that are probably now in their 30’s, who were under me in various companies as Management Trainees and are now Senior Site Managers in their own right. That for me is probably one of my biggest personal achievements.”
