New London Biggin Hill Airport Hotel taking shape - Barnes Construction

The hotel at London Biggin Hill Airport, The Landing, is taking shape with the steel frame erected and the floors installed.

The general manager of The Landing Hotel, Steven Thorne-Farrar, joined Simon Severwright, surveying director of Barnes Construction, on the second floor of what will be a 56-bedroom 4-star boutique hotel when it is completed later this year.

With the scaffolding up, the steel frame is currently being intumescent painted, and the installation of the external walls and roof parapet has started.

The new hotel is primarily intended for crew who frequently fly in and out of the airport, as well as engineers and other employees of the numerous resident aerospace businesses based at the airport. When finished, it will have a fitness suite, as well as a beautiful lounge, bar and restaurant that will overlook the runway from the first floor, offering fabulous views.

The project team is made up of businesses, who have strong track records in their individual disciplines. Working alongside Barnes Construction, JLL is the client cost consultant and Russell Doughty are project managers for the scheme, which has been designed by architects, Powell Dobson, with Superstructures providing structural engineering design expertise; especially with regard to the specific acoustic requirements needed due to the hotel’s location at the end of the runway.

Thorne-Farrar is delighted that construction is on course saying: “We are already seeing great interest in The Landing, and it will be a valuable addition to the those who regularly use the airport, as well as visitors to the many resident companies at London Biggin Hill. I am particularly pleased that the new hotel will enable us to continue to support the local community by providing further employment opportunities.

Severwright added: “The construction programme is progressing well and over the next few months, building work will gain further momentum, with 20-25 personnel on site representing several trades, all working hard to get the roof and external fabric installed and completed, so the building becomes watertight.”
