The project comprised of the construction of three individual five storey accommodation blocks providing a total of 160 bedrooms for use by the Medical and Nursing Staff at the hospital. The accommodation has been arranged in a flat type format comprising of 4 bedrooms with a shared kitchen and day space area.
The substructures foundations were founded off CFA piling with reinforced insitu concrete ground floors slabs. The structural frame for each block was formed with a Metsec lightweight gauge steel frame structure with concrete upper floors. The external envelop to the building was formed with rigid insulation set between the metal framing system and clad with a brick outer skin. External aluminium windows and doors were installed which also included decorative louvred panels for natural ventilation.
Internally, residential type finishing’s were installed including the use of prefabricated bathroom pods and fitted bedroom furniture. Individual heating systems were installed within each of the flats including photovoltaic panels located on the flat roof areas.
Externally, the existing hard paving to Car Park C was extended, new footpaths were formed and landscaped areas provided. New cycle and bin stores also formed part the external works scheme.
