THE PROJECT COMPRISED OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW TWO STOREY EXTENSION TO AN EXISTING OPERATIONAL INTENSIVE CARE WARD FACILITY WITHIN THE RESTRICTED CONFINES OF THE EXISTING HOSPITAL.
Great attention to the project planning and liaison with the Hospital’s Facilities staff was required and very evident from our initial site visit. Our site compound area was remote from the working area and therefore careful planning was implemented in terms material deliveries, vehicle size and offloading arrangements.
Works included a steel framed structure with single ply flat roof finish and building envelope comprising of a combination of facing brickwork and aluminium curtain walling. The internal finishes and services installations were of high quality hygienic hospital standards.
The new extension was constructed independently from the existing building and the final links into the existing ward areas via new openings and service connections were carefully programmed via agreed dates with the Hospital’s Facilities staff to ensure that the works were completed with minimum impact to staff and patients alike.
Key features of the project were:
- Occupied live hospital site
- Steel frame structure
- Aluminium curtain walling
- High quality hygienic hospital standards
- Single stage traditional competitive tender
