THE PROJECT COMPRISED OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW SINGLE STOREY EXTENSION WITHIN AN EXISTING COURTYARD AREA ADJACENT TO THE EXISTING ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
The new accommodation provides two new three bed ward areas, recliner bays, a nurse base and medical staff support areas
The new extension was formed using timber frame construction supported off strip foundations due to the location of the proposed extension and tight programme restraints involved. Externally, the building was clad with a render carrier board and finished with a through colour render. The timber roof cassettes were finished with a liquid plastic roof finish laid on a tapered insulation board. Internally, robust medical quality internal
finishes have been provided together with hospital type building services installations including electrical, heating and cooling, mechanical ventilation and medical gases
Key features of the project were:-
- Timber frame construction
- Occupied live hospital site
- Fastrack programme
- Medical quality finishes and installations
- Negotiated procurement route
