The project comprised of the refurbishment of the kitchen and servery areas within the existing Grade 1 listed College Kitchen areas.
The existing kitchen operations were decanted into a Temporary Kitchen arrangement located within the College’s Courtyard. The existing equipment and finishes were fully stripped out back to the building structure. Structural alterations were made to the historic College building to improve access routes and ceiling heights. The new kitchen provides specialised cooking facilities with both hot kitchen and cold preparation areas together with cold rooms and hygienic wall and floor surfaces. A plenum ceiling was also installed and provides extraction ventilation with air handling units located on a new steel roof top plant deck.
The existing first floor servery area was also fully refurbished including new servery counters and equipment. Four new lifts were provided to allow access for catering equipment across all floors with new openings formed through the medieval College walls to accommodate the lifts.
The existing Dining Hall ceiling was redecorated as part of the works and secondary double glazing units also installed within this area.
Site access was via Free School Lane which is a narrow street to the rear of the College. Our Contractors compound was formed within the Bursars garden which was accessible with the temporary removal of the 3m high boundary wall following Historic England’s approval.
