THE PROJECT COMPRISED OF A NEW SIX CLASSBASE BLOCK ON AN EXISTING PRIMARY SCHOOL SITE, INCLUDING STAFF ADMINISTRATION AREAS AND A SECONDARY HALL. PLANNING DICTATED THAT THE SCHEME HAD TO MARRY EXACTLY WITH THE EXISTING SCHOOL AND EXTERNAL FINISHES. THE PROJECT WAS PROCURED VIA AN NEC PARTNERING CONTRACT UNDER A FRAMEWORK ARRANGEMENT.
The building was constructed through the utilisation of a specialist foundation company who produced a piled raft solution to avoid the deep excavations that would have been required to form the originally proposed ground beams, saving costs and avoiding health & safety risks on site. The super structure was constructed using a steel frame with timber infill panels and finished with a mixture of decorative timber weatherboarding and render to complete the external envelope. The roof was a standing seam panel system to match that of the existing school.
Key Features of the project were:
- Specialist foundation solution
- Pre-fabricated steel frame super structure
- Standing seam roof system
- Partnering project using the NEC form of contract.
