THE PROJECT COMPRISED OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW RETURNS AND WAREHOUSE BUILDING ON A GREENFIELD SITE
The returns area of the building comprised of a three storey structure incorporating offices, training facilities, workshop and repairs areas, rest rooms and support areas and provided in the order of 10,000m² of accommodation. The warehouse element of the building comprised of 9,500m² of high bay storage accommodation with a three span portal frame structure.
The building was constructed using a steel frame structure supported of traditional pad foundations with a powerfloated ground floor slab. A soil stabilisation ground improvement technique was used on the existing subsoils to increase the bearing capacity for the new structures and pavings. Externally, the building was finished with a combination of insulated roof cladding, wall cladding and aluminium curtain walling and windows.
The project included the construction of a reinforced concrete HGV yard area with dock leveller bays in addition to a car parking area, drainage, external lighting and landscaping.
