The project comprised of the construction of a new three storey extension to the existing BUUK UK Headquarters building in order to allow doubling of the office accommodation capacity and relocation of staff into one building. The accommodation comprised of open plan office space, individual offices and meeting rooms, new toilet facilities and the formation of a new staff restaurant. The project was completed whilst the existing office building remained in occupation.
The new three storey extension was located to the rear of the existing building and the existing ground levels necessitated substantial groundworks including bulk excavation and sheet piled retaining walls. The superstructure was formed with a steel frame structure that in part, cantilevered above the existing building. Upper floors were formed with precast concrete widespan type units and the pitched roof structure was formed using trussed rafters and infill timbers. The building envelope was formed with a combination of facing brickwork, rainscreen cladding, aluminium windows and curtain walling. Pitched roof finishes comprised of artificial slates and single ply membrane to flat roof areas. Internally, raised access floors and high quality office finishes were installed together with building services. The project included the fitting out of the new Staff Restaurant.
Externally, new paving’s, steps and landscaping were formed together with drainage and mains services.
